Carmel Poor, LSCSW
Carmel has been in social services for over 30 years. She has been working with people suffering from mental illness for 25 of those years and focused on providing outpatient counseling for the last 10 years.
Her focus is on working with people who have PTSD, treatment resistant depression/anxiety, personality disorders and the aging population, although she will see anyone over 18.
She uses a blend of CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), narrative therapy, Gestalt therapy and insight-oriented psychotherapy. Carmel specializes in DBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a blend of individual therapy, group skills training, phone coaching and frequent consultation for the therapists to keep their skills sharp. This treatment was founded in the 1990’s and has been proven to be effective for a variety of mental health issues.
Carmel’s past experiences as a client in a DBT program gives her the passion to develop the DBT program, and her skills in providing DBT, to its fullest. She likes clients to actually enjoy therapy and learning skills, encouraging frequent laughter!
